GTA 6 will feature more than 170 animal species across Leonida, while its re-engineered weather system can produce localized storms and hurricanes. The details come from Game Informer’s September 29, 2026 cover story based on interviews with Rockstar Games developers.

More than 170 animal species

Rockstar vice president of dynamic art Michael Kane discussed the scale of Leonida’s wildlife. The reported breakdown includes more than 60 types of birds, more than 30 land mammals, plus fish and reptiles. Manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators are among the animals specifically discussed.

Some wildlife is categorized as Rare, Discoverable or Legendary. Rockstar has not revealed the full species list, so unofficial lists should not be treated as confirmed.

Hurricanes and localized weather

Rockstar vice president of art for lighting and rendering Owen Shepherd described a weather system rebuilt beyond the approach used for Red Dead Redemption 2. The Game Informer coverage describes localized weather, persistent puddles after rainfall, and wind affecting hair and water.

The system also includes tropical storms and hurricanes. Rockstar has not published a frequency or detailed gameplay-impact table, so claims about how often hurricanes occur or exactly what they can destroy remain speculation.

What is confirmed and what is unknown

Reported through Rockstar developer interviews: 170+ animal species, 60+ bird types, 30+ land mammals, localized weather, tropical storms and hurricanes.
Still unknown: the complete animal list, hurricane frequency, exact gameplay consequences, and whether every wildlife category carries rewards.

GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. See our GTA 6 release date, platforms and preload guide for the launch basics.
